Mid-Summer Celebrations

The City of Victoria was incorporated on August 2, 1862 so    get geared up for special celebrations over the July 29th weekend and for the rest of the year.

Fort Victoria

Head to Centennial Square, between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 29, 2012, for an afternoon of fun fort building for all ages. Featuring music and historical stories, this event is a great way for visitors to learn more about Victoria’s past.

Birthday Cake and Tea (of course)

On August 2, there will be a public ceremony followed by a community celebration in Centennial Square featuring music, cake and many activities.

Local gem Silk Road Tea Company has created a limited edition tea to celebrate Victoria’s 150th birthday. The Victoria: Tribute Blend Tea is a black tea with beguiling honey, fruit and floral notes, inspired by the capital’s heritage, beautiful gardens and natural spaces. The tea sells in a mini-tin (eight to ten cups) for $4.99 CDN or a 40 cup size for $15 CDN.

TOAST WITH A PINT

For beer aficionados, Spinnakers Brewpub (the oldest brewpub in Canada!), has released Hoptoria, a special 150th beer in honour of the city’s birthday. Described as a remarkably smooth American Style IPA, this beer is definitely worth a taste!

Several hotels are offering special 150th packages – check them out on my iApp Victoria Essential guide.
